Trailmates Snowmobile Club has also won its share of notable awards and accolades, in both local and international recognition. Among these, most recently, the Club won the 2016 Wausau/Central Wisconsin IMPACT Award by the Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau (Wausau CVB), an award for a person, organization or business that has made a positive impact through tourism for the area community. Trailmates Snowmobile Club was also voted the International Snowmobile Club of the Year in 2011 by the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Like the IMPACT award, the International Snowmobile Club of the Year award was a very prestigious honor for the club to receive. The club continues work with and participate in the Marathon County Snowmobile Council, an organization of 28 other county-wide snowmobile clubs who work to promote snowmobile trail safety and responsible snowmobile operation by riders. Additionally, the snowmobile clubs of Marathon County have worked to maintain many generations of strong landowner relations to help preserve riding areas where trails travel and improve the longevity of the sport of snowmobiling in the area. The club and its members are also pleased to help support the Wausau 525 Snowmobile Championship, an annual ice oval snowmobile race event held in Wausau in honor and memorial of snowmobile racer Phillip "Flip" Merwin #525 where proceeds from the race events benefit its charity to help kids and families of children in the area with critical illnesses.
By size comparison, Central Wisconsin's Marathon County (where we're based; highlighted on map) is the largest county in the state with a vast area of 1544 square miles; Over 300 square miles larger than the entire US state of Rhode Island! There are almost 900 miles of snowmobile trails to enjoy in all of Marathon County too; 863 to be exact, part of a network of over 25,000 total miles of snowmobile trails in the State of Wisconsin. When snowmobile trails open each winter, many unique scenic and statewide historical interests are explored by riders on snowmobile, connect snowmobilers of many ages, their families and friends with a thrilling outdoor Wisconsin experience and camaraderie.

Snowmobile trails in Wisconsin are possible because many landowners have given their permission to use their land. This private-public arrangement is similar for most snowmobile trails in Illinois, Michigan and most other Midwest US states where trails are maintained by the local snowmobile clubs statewide. Clubs like Trailmates provide trails for public use though volunteer efforts of club members. Trailmates Club volunteers work diligently to groom and maintain area trails for riders and promote safe snowmobiling throughout the County and in various club functions around the State of Wisconsin.
